Hamsters

We have kept and bred Syrian hamsters since 1994. They have all been very much loved and we remember them here.

HAL - September 1994 to November 1996 (2 years 2 months) - white short haired

So named because we purchased him on Halloween. A very sweet and gentle hamster. He died of kidney failure.

MOLEY - August 1995 to Jan 1996 (5 months) - black long haired

So named because he looked like a Mole. He sadly lost his gutzy battle against phneumonia.

RUBY - August 1995 to July 1997 (1 year 11 months) - golden short haired.

So named because of her ruby red eyes. She had a lovely character. Died from an internal tumour.

Q - August 1995 to october 1997 (2 years 2 months) - golden short haired.

Named after Q from Star Trek. He used to commando crawl across the floor and went everywhere in his owner's pocket. Had a heart attack.

DUSTY - March 1996 to June 1996 (3 months) - golden short haired.

The son of RUBY and Q. So named because his fur had a dusty look. He once escaped and ended up 4 feet off the ground in a display cabinet - we never found out how he got up there. Was found dead in his nest one morning.

WOODY - September 1996 to May 1998 (1 year 8 months) - caramel long haired.

Named after Woody from Toy Story. He had a lovely gentle nature.

AMBER - May 1997 to June 1999 (2 years 1 month) - golden short haired.

So named because she was the colour of a piece of amber we have in the house. A lovely little lady who was very friendly.

With her litter, the dark one is KIRA, the others went to homes and were called Fred, Ruby and Darwin.

KIRA - January 1998 to February 2000 (2 years 1 month) - golden short haired.

Daughter of WOODY and AMBER. Named after Kira in Star Trek Deep Space 9. She was a character and a half. She begged for treats and to be taken out of her cage, just loved to be handled.

As a baby with her brothers and sister

SWEEP - August 1997 to January 1998 (5 months) - black long haired.

Named because his little white paws made him look like a chimney sweep who had been working and taken his gloves off to eat his lunch. He ran everywhere and always - he never ever stopped.

ZIP - March 1998 to July 2000 (2 years 4 months) - black short haired.

Named after the TY Beanie Baby Zip. A very gentle and cuddly hamster.

TIPSEY - January 2000 to April 2000 (3 months) - white short haired.

MISTY - May 1999 to May 20th 2001 (2 years 2 weeks) - golden short haired.

Named because of her fur colour. The smallest syrrian hamster we have ever seen. The little one who simply never grew up.
